Concerns Regarding Air Pollution in West Lothian

That the Parliament notes with concern that air pollution levels have increased in some parts of West Lothian; understands that figures produced by Friends of the Earth Scotland suggest that the presence of toxic pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter were higher in both Broxburn and Linlithgow; understands that this trend, which is consistent with levels of air pollution across Scotland, is inextricably linked to an increased number of cars and traffic on the country's roads; recognises that these toxic pollutants can contribute to higher incidences of heart attacks, asthma and strokes, and calls on public agencies, the Scottish and UK governments, local authorities and businesses to work together to transform the transport system, by making public transport greener, cheaper and more accessible.
