Johnson & Johnson Fined $344 Million in Mesh Scandal Case

That the Parliament notes that a court in California has ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay nearly $344 million in penalties for deceptively marketing pelvic mesh devices; understands that the state attorney general accused the company of putting “profits ahead of the health of millions of women”; believes that these are the same transvaginal mesh products that were sold to NHS boards and trusts across the UK and implanted into women, causing many to experience life changing and debilitating injury; understands that Johnson & Johnson sold more than 780,000 devices in the US between 2008 and 2014, including more than 42,000 in California; calls on Scotland's NHS boards to declare how many mesh devises they purchased, and questions why the Scottish Government and/or NHS Lothian are not taking similar action to California.
