The Orcadian Recognised at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards

That the Parliament congratulates The Orcadian newspaper on being presented with a Special Recognition Award at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards; understands that the award recognises the success of its Outreach4CLAN fundraising campaign, which raised an impressive £22,786.07 between August and December 2019 for CLAN Cancer Support; acknowledges that the funds will help to expand CLAN’s invaluable services in Orkney, which include providing free emotional and practical support to families and individuals affected by cancer; recognises that The Orcadian established the successful campaign using its prize money from winning Newspaper of the Year at the awards last year, for which it was also shortlisted this year, and has exceeded its original target of raising £10,000 for the charity; congratulates in particular the Orcadian journalists, Mark Harcus, Sarah Sutherland and Craig Taylor, on being shortlisted for individual awards; commends the editor, Leah Seator, and all the staff at The Orcadian for their exceptional fundraising efforts and generous support for CLAN; hopes that the campaign continues to raise important funds for CLAN, and wishes everyone involved at The Orcadian all the best for another successful year ahead.
