The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 17 to 23 February 2020 is Victims Awareness Week, with events being run across the country by Victim Support Scotland, coinciding with events happening all over Europe to mark European Day for Victims of Crime on 22 February; understands that the aim of Victims Awareness Week this year is to raise awareness of victim and witness rights under the Victim’s Code for Scotland, which clearly sets out the rights of victims to a minimum standard of service, information, participation, protection, support and compensation, and to encourage people affected by crime to access these rights and care offered by the organisation; notes the value of highlighting the support services provided to those affected by crime, including victims, witnesses and their families and friends, in courts and the community by Victim Support Scotland, and commends the hard work of Victim Support Scotland’s dedicated staff and volunteers who offer invaluable support to those in East Dunbartonshire and across Scotland.
