Tackling Air Pollution in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament considers that worsening air pollution across Scotland is contributing to both a public health and environmental crisis; notes with concern that air pollution is estimated to contribute to 2,000 deaths a year in Scotland; believes that the health impact of air pollution on the Scottish economy is estimated to cost £1.1 billion each year; understands that a number of streets in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee are in breach of legal air pollution limits that were due to be met a decade ago, but also recognises that air pollution is not just a cause for concern in cities but also affects smaller communities; believes that more must be done to reduce air pollution in Scotland with air pollution levels rising year-on-year in many areas such as East Dunbartonshire, Edinburgh and Dundee, and considers that a vital first step is to provide every school in Scotland with an air quality monitor.
