The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Jennifer McKay, who is an apprentice at the Ferguson Marine shipyard in Port Glasgow, on beating off competition from across the UK to win the Worshipful Company of the Shipwrights Silver Medal award; understands that the 24-year-old, who works in the drawing office at the yard, is considered the industry’s most outstanding young prospect; notes that Jennifer and fellow Ferguson’s apprentice, Brendan Conway, a welder, made it to the final 17 contenders out of 100 who took part in a leadership development course in 2019, from which a shortlist of six finalists was drawn up; appreciates that Ferguson’s bosses are now set to help Jennifer further her education and training as they seek to harness her, and her fellow apprentices’ full potential; recognises that Jennifer has called the yard a “fantastic place to work and learn”, and wishes her and the other apprentices at Ferguson’s all the best for the future.
