Kirkwall Grammar School Celebrates Success at SSBU Junior Quaich
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Kirkwall Grammar School junior badminton team on winning the Scottish Schools Badminton Union Secondary Gibb Memorial Quaich in Perth; understands that the eight-player team won all of its group matches before winning two impressive matches 5-0 against Means Castle School and Dunblane High School in the semi-finals and final respectively; recognises that this is the first time that a team from Kirkwall Grammar School has won the national event, which demonstrates the magnitude of the achievement, given the strength in depth of the other teams involved; acknowledges that the senior Kirkwall Grammar School team also had a great run in its event against older and more experienced opposition, which saw it come seventh overall; congratulates all of the players on their outstanding performances and results at this prestigious tournament; pays tribute to their hard work and to the dedicated efforts and support of the coaching team at Orkney Badminton Club who helped the players in their preparation for the competition, including Rebecca Reid who organised and accompanied the teams on the day, and wishes all of the players continued success for the remainder of their season and beyond.
