Commonwealth Day 2020

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates Commonwealth Day 2020 and recognises the important role that the Commonwealth continues to play in building and maintaining relationships across the world; notes that the Commonwealth’s theme for 2020 is Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming; values the ongoing work by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) to foster parliamentary dialogue across all 180 branches of the CPA; further notes the work of the CPA Scotland Branch and MSPs over the last 12 months with a range of Commonwealth parliaments, such as Malawi, Namibia, Uganda, Canada and promoting discussion in the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) of key issues, such as the approach to diversity and zero tolerance on sexual harassment in parliaments, tackling climate change, Brexit; the participation of MSPs in election-observing missions and post-election seminars for newly-elected parliamentarians, promoting parliamentary scrutiny and reform, strengthening relations between the Scottish Parliament and others and highlighting the work of the Parliament, and acknowledges the continued contribution of Scotland and its people to the Commonwealth.
