Orkney FC to Play Two Games Simultaneously

Lodged by Liam McArthur (Scottish Liberal Democrats) Standard Motion 7 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament applauds Orkney FC on its commitment as its squad prepares to play two games simultaneously on opposite sides of the Pentland Firth; understands that, due to a series of weather-related postponements, the club is looking to catch up on its North Caledonian League commitments by one set of squad members taking on Bunillidh Thistle in Helmsdale at 12.30 pm on 14 March 2020 while another set will play Bonar Bridge in Kirkwall at 12.45 pm; understands that this is not unprecedented in Scottish football, with Celtic completing games against Raith Rovers and Motherwell on the same day in 1916; hopes that the Orkney players will emerge victorious in both fixtures thanks to the capacity of the squad to raise enough players to meet the demands of fulfilling the two fixtures; believes that this demonstrates the enthusiasm and commitment of all those involved with the club, but notes with regret that the exceptional demand for players was still insufficient to prompt a call up in goals for the local MSP; recognises that, while the side is currently fifth in the league, the opportunity to earn six points in one day presents an ideal opportunity to make up ground on the leaders, Invergordon, in the race for the title, and wishes the players the best of luck.
