World Autism Awareness Day
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates World Autism Awareness Day 2020, which takes place on 2 April; notes that World Autism Awareness Day was first initiated by the UN in 2007 as a means to improve global understanding and awareness of autism and to promote the rights of persons with autism; recognises that World Autism Awareness Day 2020 takes place in the midst of a global pandemic that poses particular challenges and threats to those who perceive the world differently; understands that the current lockdown taking place, and the closure and withdrawal of many vital support networks and services, will pose potential challenges and risks to many individuals with autism and their families, and supports the call from the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, for the rights of persons with autism to be taken into account in the formulation of all responses to the COVID-19 virus.
