Innovative Treatment for North East Breast Cancer Patients

That the Parliament commends Friends of ANCHOR for accelerating funding that could bring huge benefits to breast cancer patients and the surgical teams treating them; notes that £27,135 was fast-tracked to fund radiofrequency breast tags and detector probes; further notes that these tags are implanted into suitable patients who require breast surgery and work by emitting radio signals that are detected with a sensor in the operating theatre to allow for more accurate surgery; understands that the radio waves stay active for 90 days, meaning the tags can be placed in patients up to three months in advance of their surgery, helping to streamline the patient pathway and allow for more flexibility; welcomes the fact that this new equipment could reduce the need for patients to travel to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) for surgery, and celebrates this timely donation in anticipation of the extremely busy period expected to hit staff at ARI over the coming months.
