Rail to Refuge Scheme

The motion

That the Parliament applauds the work of train companies, including ScotRail, during the COVID-19 outbreak to introduce the Rail to Refuge scheme; understands that this initiative allows people fleeing domestic abuse during the lockdown to apply for free train travel to refuge accommodation; recognises that this is being provided in partnership with train companies and Women's Aid; notes that national domestic abuse helplines have seen a 25% increase in calls and online requests for help since the introduction of the lockdown; recognises that the Scottish Government is providing £1.6 million of funding to Scottish Women's Aid through the community fund, and hopes that this initiative will help those at risk of domestic violence.
