The motion

That the Parliament notes that Firefighters’ Memorial Day 2020 was marked on 4 May; welcomes the opportunity it offered for all to come together to remember the members of the fire service who have lost their lives on the frontline; acknowledges that stations across the UK and internationally fell silent at noon to mark the day, which was organised jointly in the UK by the Fire Brigades Union and the Firefighters Memorial Trust (FMT), and pay their respects to the firefighters who have died in the line of duty, including the more than 2,300 in the UK, and pay tribute to the nine firefighters in the United States and the four in Italy who have lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic; joins in solidarity with the families of these firefighters to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made in tragic circumstances, and commits to honour the lives of all who have lost their lives at work and who are no longer with us.
