Aberdeen FC’s Still Standing Free Campaign
The motion
That the Parliament commends the work of Aberdeen FC and the Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) through the Still Standing Free campaign; understands that this has involved club staff, including players, making over 6,500 calls to supporters and vulnerable people who may be socially isolated, with over £32,000 being raised via JustGiving to make food deliveries in partnership with C FINE, which is an Aberdeen-based charity and food bank; recognises that over 800 deliveries have been made across the north-east, with over 2,000 children, and over 3,500 people in total, being supported through this scheme; notes that 11 May 2020 marked “Gothenburg Day”, recognising the 37th anniversary of Aberdeen’s victory over Real Madrid in the 1983 European Cup Winners Cup Final, which was marked by the club and former players, and gave the opportunity to again highlight the Still Standing Free campaign and encourage donations from supporters and well-wishers; commends all involved at Aberdeen FC and the AFCCT for the role that they are playing in reaching out to vulnerable people during the COVID-19 pandemic, and wishes them continued success.
