Loanhead Special Gala Week
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the members of the Loanhead Gala Day Committee for organising a special gala week for 2020 with "at home" activities and virtual alternatives that seek to mirror the events of the normal schedule; understands that residents have been asked to decorate their homes with bunting for the period of the celebrations, 12 to 21 June, to demonstrate solidarity as a community and help to lift everyone’s spirits; notes that, instead of the popular carnival parade, on 12 June people will dress up at home and post photos on the gala day’s Facebook page, while families are being encouraged to take part in the 14 June fun run by running in their garden or at the park as part of their daily exercise, with medals given to children; believes that, to replace the Annual Tea Dance, residents are being invited to prepare one or more afternoon tea plates or a small selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes, and deliver these older neighbours, key workers, or others who might need cheering up; understands that the Gala Day itself has provisionally been moved to 5 September, and recognises and applauds the ingenuity of Loanhead and other communities in their response to the COVID-!9 outbreak.
