The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Carers Week, which takes place between 8 and 14 June 2020; notes that the week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and highlight the challenges that unpaid and young carers face and the contributions that they make to families and communities; recognises that the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that carers are faced with new challenges, taking on extended or additional caring responsibilities for relatives and friends, who are disabled, ill or older and who require support; supports this year’s ambition to "Make Caring Visible" and believes that everyone has a part to play in making sure carers are seen, heard and understood; thanks carers for the incredible contribution that they make every day to those they care for and to communities; applauds carers for their resilience and compassion during an extremely difficult time; understands the impact that caring can have on the wellbeing of carers, including on their mental and physical health, relationships and finances, and welcomes the recent £19.2 million Scottish Government investment in the Carer’s Allowance Supplement, which is in recognition of the additional pressure that carers are under as a result of the ongoing pandemic.
