Commending the Efforts of The All England Lawn Tennis Club Following Wimbledon Cancellation
The motion
That the Parliament commends the efforts of The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) in the wake of the cancellation of 2020’s Wimbledon championship, which is the oldest and most prestigious championship in professional tennis; understands that the efforts have included the donation of strawberries, towels and balls intended for the contest, daily distribution of hot meals to those in need, and contributions to the Player Relief Programme and wheelchair tennis fund; acknowledges that the organisation has also decided to allocate a share of the £10 million prize money to each of 620 players who would have been competing at Wimbledon this year, and applauds AELTC on its actions to promote the sport of tennis, from grassroots to professional level, and to support players during this unprecedented and difficult time.
