Openreach Unveils its Largest Hard-to-reach Full Fibre Build
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Openreach’s announcement of plans to make ultra-reliable and gigabit-capable full fibre broadband available to thousands of homes and businesses in harder-to-reach communities across Scotland; understands that Alloa, Sauchie, Clackmannan, Menstrie and Alva are among 60 small and rural towns and villages across Scotland to be upgraded; notes that access to faster broadband speeds will be crucial to communities’ ability to recover post COVID-19; recognises that this is part of a £12 billion investment to build full fibre infrastructure for 20 million premises throughout the UK by the mid to late 2020s, and believes that this will deliver significant economic, social and environmental benefits for rural and urban communities.
