Domestic Abuse Information for Educators

That the Parliament welcomes the new resource from Scottish Women’s Aid and Education Scotland to help education staff understand the role they can play in tackling domestic abuse; believes that the document, Domestic Abuse Information for Educators, can prepare schools for responding safely to children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse; understands that emerging evidence shows this to have increased during the COVID-19 lockdown; recognises that for many children and young people experiencing domestic abuse, their early learning and childcare setting, school or youth work setting may be the only place they feel safe; understands that returning to schools means that many children and young people will have access to a safe space, trusted adults and peer support for the first time in months, and congratulates Scottish Women’s Aid and Education Scotland for their efforts to help staff feel confident in responding to disclosures of domestic abuse in a safe and effective way, including by working closely with specialist domestic abuse services to ensure children and young people can access the support that they need.
