Lodged by Lewis Macdonald Standard Motion 1 supporter

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes an innovative new partnership between Aberdeen City Council and BP, which will see BP act as a strategic planning and technical adviser in helping Aberdeen make the transition to become a climate positive city; understands that BP has made a commitment to partner with around 15 cities worldwide as part of its own strategy to become a net zero company by 2050 or sooner, and that Aberdeen was chosen because of BP’s longstanding relationship with the city through its North Sea operations; recognises that BP and Aberdeen City Council will work together to develop new ideas and opportunities as part of Aberdeen’s Energy Transition Strategic Infrastructure Plan, including the use of hydrogen as a power source for transport and heat, creating energy efficient buildings, developing clean, low-emission vehicles and improving the fuel efficiency of the council’s existing fleet, and exploring opportunities provided by the circular economy, such as energy from waste; acknowledges the technological expertise that BP can bring to Aberdeen City Council’s own efforts to become a climate positive city, and looks forward to the opportunities that will be created in Aberdeen as a result of this new partnership.
