World Alzheimer’s Day
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges that 21 September 2020 marks World Alzheimer’s Day; understands that this Awareness Day represents an international campaign to highlight the issues faced by people affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s; recognises that there are an estimated 90,000 people with dementia in Scotland, and that around 3,000 are under 65; regrets projections that between 102,000 to 114,000 people in Scotland will have dementia by 2031; notes that an estimated 62% of people with dementia have Alzheimer’s disease; acknowledges that Alzheimer’s is a major cause of disability in people over 60, contributing 11.2% of all years living with a disability; applauds the many organisations that work tirelessly to enhance the comfort and care of people with the condition; highlights in particular the efforts of the Aberdeen Dementia Resource Centre, the Living Well Project and the Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust, which all provide support and projects tailored toward improving the lives of people in Aberdeen with dementia and those who love and care for them, and commends all care workers and family carers that support the people affected by this heart-breaking illness every single day.
