Eday Housing Project Recognised at the Aquaculture Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Scottish Sea Farms Ltd and Haydn Jones and Nick Lyde of Willowstream on winning the Economic Sustainability prize at the annual Aquaculture Awards for their efforts to address the housing shortage on the island of Eday, Orkney; notes that the Aquaculture Awards recognise those who have made an exceptional contribution to the global aquaculture industry; understands that Scottish Sea Farms worked with local landowners, Haydn Jones and Nick Lyde, to provide essential affordable housing on Eday to help meet the growing demand for the island’s salmon farm; acknowledges that the new high-specification and eco-friendly houses remove the inter-island commute for staff and will therefore help to improve recruitment that will support the long-term viability of salmon fishing on the island, and congratulates everyone involved with the project for their hard work and outstanding efforts to provide this housing to support the growth of the community and improve working conditions for those playing a leading role to develop this crucial sector on the island.
