The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that Aberdeen has been chosen as the site of a pioneering offshore floating facility to produce green hydrogen using wind turbines; recognises that Environmental Resource Management’s Dolphyn project will start with a 2MW prototype situated within the Kincardine Offshore Windfarm in 2024, with the first commercial 10-turbine hydrogen-producing windfarm due to come online in 2030; acknowledges that Aberdeen was chosen over other possible sites for the Dolphyn project thanks to the city region’s existing commitment to hydrogen energy; notes that a recent report by the Offshore Wind Industry Council, in partnership with the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, estimates that green hydrogen projects could generate £320 billion for the UK economy, as well as supporting 120,000 jobs, and looks forward to the success of the Dolphyn project and other green hydrogen ventures in the North East.
