Supporting Restaurants and Takeaways
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the challenges faced by restaurants and other businesses providing food for delivery and take away; understands that the well-known delivery apps charge businesses up to 35% of the total cost of each order placed on their platforms; considers that the ubiquity and financial resources of these apps make it virtually impossible for businesses to decline listing on their sites; believes that consumers should be aware how much of the cost of their order goes towards commission rather than to the business that they receive their food from; considers that this near monopoly on food delivery listings to be contributing to the wider challenges facing locally-run businesses, and believes that people deserve to know the real cost of ordering from third party platforms when trying to support local businesses.
