Happy Anniversary Lauder Fire Station
The motion
That the Parliament notes the 20th anniversary of Lauder Fire Station, which it understands has been called out on over 2,000 occasions during that time; further notes that the anniversary was celebrated with a socially distanced ceremony; understands that, when the station first opened, there were 45 applicants to become firefighters, 15 of whom were successful, including the Watch Commander, John Connell, and Crew Commander, Dougie Scott, who are both still serving; appreciates that this fire station, like many others in more rural communities, is staffed by retained firefighters, many of whom do this in addition to their main job; thanks the team in Lauder for their dedicated and vital service to their local community; encourages others to look into becoming a retained firefighter, and recognises the vital role that they play in service to communities across Scotland.
