80 Years of Commitment to Education, Activism and Socialism

That the Parliament notes that 21 October 2020 is the 80th birthday of Professor John Foster; recognises the enormous contribution to learning that Professor Foster has made over his long academic career in Scotland from its beginning at University of Strathclyde to its conclusion at University of Paisley, now the University of the West of Scotland; compliments his unwavering commitment to both formal and informal education; commends his contribution to economics and history and, in particular, his writings on the Scottish Labour and trade union movement; notes his grassroots political activism within the Communist party and unwavering commitment to the Morning Star newspaper and his community work that brought about  significant advances in Govan, where he lived, and elsewhere across Scotland, in developing the tenants movement, and celebrates his major influence on the wider political landscape of Scotland, including the reestablishment of the Scottish Parliament.
