Allied Health Professionals Day 2020

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges Allied Health Professional Day 2020, which takes place on 14 October; recognises the contribution of allied health professionals (AHP) across health and social care services, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, podiatrists, dietitians, paramedics, radiographers, prosthetists and orthotists, orthoptists, art, music and drama therapists; notes the benefits of a multidisciplinary team to patient care and outcomes through applying a holistic approach to care, including improving hospital discharge and services within acute care, social care, housing, education, and mental health settings; believes that the AHP workforce is a valuable resource, which should be used to shift the balance of care from acute to community services, helping people to live longer, healthier lives at home or in a homely setting; commends the publication of the AHP Compendium 2020, which shares best-practice examples of Scotland’s AHP services, and welcomes the support of the professions to provide practical support to people of all ages with physical and mental health problems, long term conditions, and those experiencing the effects of aging and for the support provided by the AHP workforce in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
