Catherine Browne and Alistair Wilson Awarded the Colonel Coin for Excellence

That the Parliament congratulates Lieutenant Catherine Browne and Staff Sergeant Instructor, Alistair Wilson, both from Orkney, on being awarded the Colonel Coin for Excellence for volunteering to run events for members of the 1st Battalion The Highlanders, Kirkwall detachment of the Army Cadet Force Association (ACFA) since their training was suspended during the current pandemic; understands that ACFA is one of the largest and oldest youth cadet organisations in the country and provides valuable opportunities and activities where young people can learn and develop new skills, become more confident in their abilities and make new friends; recognises that Catherine and Alistair helped to organise and deliver training for the cadets and support them in their musical activities; acknowledges that Catherine performed Heroes of St Valery in online ACFA Scotland music videos along with other members to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the battle of St Valery, and that Alistair formed a new traditional music band for the battalion that was also involved in the music videos; thanks both Catherine and Alistair for going above and beyond to keep morale and motivation of the cadets high during what was a difficult time for young people due to the pandemic, and believes that their work and commitment has helped the mental health and wellbeing of many young people, and wishes Catherine, Alistair and all volunteers involved in the Kirkwall detachment of the ACFA the very best in their efforts to continue to support young cadets in Orkney.
