Billy Jolly and Liz Johnson Receive the Lord Lewin Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Billy Jolly and Liz Johnson, both from Orkney, on being awarded the Lord Lewin Award on their outstanding service to the Shipwrecked Mariner’s Society; understands that the charity provides financial and practical support to seafarers in Orkney and elsewhere who are facing hardship during or after fulfilling their life at sea; recognises that Billy and Liz, who are brother and sister and both honorary agents for the Shipwrecked Mariner’s Society, have followed in the footsteps of their father, William Jolly Snr, who was Kirkwall’s honorary agent for 39 years; acknowledges that Billy and Liz have served the national maritime charity in a number of roles over the last 27 years and arranged several important fundraising events during this time to support the society’s vital work, including looking after the large collecting mine at the end of Kirkwall pier along with a number of model mines in the area; thanks Billy and Liz for their many years of dedicated service and hard work to support the charity and help those in need; congratulates them on receiving this prestigious and very well deserved award, and wishes them, and everyone involved at the Shipwrecked Mariner’s Society, all the best as they continue to make a real difference to the lives of seafarers and their dependents who experience hardship.
