Graham Rorie Reaches Final of Young Traditional Musician of the Year
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Graham Rorie, from Orkney, on reaching the grand final of the 2021 BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year; understands that the competition was launched in 2001 to recognise talented young musicians across the country and support them into a career in traditional music; acknowledges that the winning artist will receive a recording session with BBC Scotland, a one-year membership of the Musicians Union and the chance to perform at the Scots Trad Music Awards; recognises that Graham, who plays the fiddle and mandolin and studied traditional music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, was selected by a panel of judges along with five other contestants to go forward to the final, which will take place in Glasgow on 31 January 2021 as part of the Celtic Connections Festival; believes that Graham has come a long way since he first performed at the Orkney Folk Festival aged 14, although recognises that he has been a regular at this and other festivals ever since, most recently as part of the highly-acclaimed band, Gnoss; congratulates Graham on reaching the final of this prestigious national competition, which is just the latest achievement in an already impressive musical career; believes that this is testament to his hard work and dedication, as well as to the passion and contagious enthusiasm that he has for his craft, and wishes Graham, and all other finalists, the very best of luck for what is set to be another exciting and high quality final in January.
