The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 3 November 2020 is Purple Tuesday, which is an annual event that seeks to encourage businesses to improve their customer service for disabled people and to highlight the spending power of disabled people and their families; understands that this spending power is also known as the Purple Pound, is worth £274 billion in the UK, and is estimated to be rising by 14% a year; acknowledges that less than 10%of organisations have a targeted plan to access the disability market; recognises that a number of organisations have pledged to take part this year by making public commitments in order to make sustainable changes that include training and awareness, formalising quiet hours and completing online and site accessibility audits; further recognises that the 2020 message is to "make do and mend" and that organisations are being encouraged to learn from what others have done successfully and apply these to their own organisations; notes that the Purple CEO has commended VisitScotland for proactively supporting the tourism sector by providing advice, guidance and resources, and encourages organisations that are not yet signed up to do so in an effort to make the customer experience accessible for all disabled people and their families in Scotland.
