Choose Psychiatry Campaign
The motion
That the Parliament commends the launch of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland’s Choose Psychiatry campaign; recognises the need to ensure that specialist mental health services are fully staffed to meet the needs of people with mental ill health; acknowledges that one in ten consultant psychiatry posts in Scotland were vacant in the college’s latest census, and supports calls for initiatives, such as ensuring 50% of foundation doctors spend part of their training in psychiatry, to boost the number of specialist mental health doctors so that the expected increases in demand for mental ill health services post-COVID-19 can be met.
