International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 25 November 2020 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, with events continuing until 10 December; understands that, according to the UN, one in three women and girls experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, over 70% of human trafficking victims are women and girls, and that violence against women is as serious a cause of death and incapacity among women of reproductive age as cancer; further understands that young girls and older women, disabled women and girls, women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex, migrants and refugees, indigenous women and ethnic minorities are particularly vulnerable; notes that this year's global theme is "Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!"; understands that, as a result of the global pandemic, the UN is hosting an online broadcast with guest speakers to commemorate the day, and notes the view that there should be a commitment to supporting the reduction of violence against all women in West Scotland and the rest of Scotland.
