Hepatitis C
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern what it sees as the drastic reduction in hepatitis C testing following the COVID-19 outbreak; appreciates that, while this may have initially been necessary in order to prioritise care for COVID-19 patients, the ongoing curtailment of testing risks hundreds more people developing preventable liver cancer and further entrenches the health inequalities associated with drug use; understands that services in other countries have been able to continue testing for hepatitis C since the beginning of the pandemic and that Scotland is now well behind in its ambition to eliminate the condition by 2024, and calls on the Scottish Government to resolve the issue and support laboratories and drug services to continue what it believes is this essential screening.
