Potato Needs a Bath is Digitally Adapted for Orkney's Primary Schools
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of a new interactive live theatre production that has been digitally adapted by Theatre in Schools Scotland (TISS) for primary schools in Orkney from 23 November to 4 December 2020; understands that the acclaimed children’s theatre production, Potato Needs a Bath, by the award-winning Scottish theatre-maker, Shonna Reppe, has been specially reimagined as a digital version for P1 and nursery pupils across Orkney as part of TISS’s touring programme; recognises that the performance, which has been supported by Orkney Islands Council Arts Development Team and Dounby Primary School, uses a combination of film and livestream with the assistance of an online "Portal Potato" to allow the pupils to interact with the show and create a unique sense of a live performance within their classroom; believes that this innovative approach will help young children in Orkney to experience and learn about the theatre, music, art and culture in a practical, fun and engaging way; notes that the use of a digital platform to support the show allows it to reach all schools in Orkney and therefore enable all pupils to enjoy the benefits of the programme; commends everyone involved in the project for their hard work and efforts to plan, organise and run the programme, and wishes them, and the pupils and teachers in Orkney who are participating, all the best for a successful and enjoyable week.
