The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Dundee-based trainee trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, Alastair Faulkner, whose oil painting of a group of frontline health workers is featured in a new book of NHS-inspired artwork called Portraits of NHS Heroes, which will raise money for NHS Charities Together; understands that Alastair, who works at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital, where the East of Scotland Trauma Centre is based, wanted to include in the painting all his NHS colleagues who are involved in trauma care, including Peter Davies, Joanna Lynch, Sarah Cant, Lindsey Fulton, Fraser Harrold, Jemma Cathro and Caroline Hutchison, who make up a team of anaesthetists, nurses, operating theatre staff, radiographers, allied health professionals and other surgeons like him; recognises that the painting took almost 100 hours to complete over a period of seven months, and was based on a group photo that had been taken prior to the COVID-19 restrictions, with the addition of a figure in full PPE to reflect the difficulties that medical professionals have faced throughout the pandemic; acknowledges that 2020 has been an especially challenging year for all healthcare professionals, and welcomes this artistic initiative to recognise all their hard work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
