Sporting Hall of Fame Established in Orkney
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the establishment of a sporting hall of fame in Orkney; understands that the hall of fame will celebrate the inspirational achievements of athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers in Orkney, as well as recognise the countless examples of those who have selflessly gone above and beyond to develop sport across the islands and widen participation at all levels; acknowledges that the hall of fame will be displayed at Kirkwall Grammar School and the first inductees will be announced at a virtual sports evening in the new year; believes that the hall of fame is a wonderful way to pay tribute to Orkney’s impressive sporting history and to the many individuals who have widely contributed to the success of clubs, associations and programmes across the county, creating fond sporting memories and valuable opportunities for people from all walks of life; thanks everyone involved in Orkney Islands Council’s Active Schools team and sportscotland for taking the lead in organising the hall of fame, and hopes to see many nominations being submitted from the public for the first inductees over the coming weeks.
