Compulsory Purchase of the Talisman, Springburn
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the decision of Glasgow City Council to begin work on the potential compulsory purchase of the site of the former Talisman public house in Springburn, should a sale not be agreed voluntarily with its owners; understands that the Talisman has lain derelict for nearly 20 years and has been a long-term blight on the local area; commends the efforts of Springburn Community Council, local activists and elected members to press for the Council to act; considers that there is an expectation that work on the compulsory purchase should progress rapidly as a priority for the wider area regeneration plans envisioned by the community, and not be unduly delayed, and believes that communities should have more powers available to them, including compulsory sales orders, to resolve issues with vacant and derelict sites.
