HIV Scotland Generation Zero Campaign

That the Parliament notes that, ahead of World AIDS Day on 1 December 2020, HIV Scotland has launched its Generation Zero campaign, which commits to end HIV stigma through conversations; understands that HIV Scotland’s latest public attitudes poll suggests that 46% of Scots think that HIV can be transmitted through kissing, biting or spitting and that only 9% strongly agree that they would be comfortable kissing someone living with HIV; expresses its concern that stigma is still a huge issue for people living with HIV in Scotland; understands that this is one of the biggest barriers to testing and that it can stop people from accessing treatment and support; agrees that, by taking a strong position on addressing stigma, inequality and social exclusion, the people of Scotland can make a real difference to the lives of people living with HIV; considers that Members can play an important role in ending stigma by promoting facts about HIV and addressing the spread of myths and misinformation, and notes HIV Scotland’s call for all MSPs to sign the Generation Zero pledge.
