Orkney Success at Green Energy Awards
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates James Ferguson, from Orkney, and the Heat Smart Energy project, on their recent success at the Green Energy Awards; understands that the awards celebrate the contributions and achievements of individuals and organisations in the renewable energy sector; recognises that James, who is the Hydrogen Research Engineer at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Stromness, won the Scottish Renewables Young and Inspiring Award for his work in assessing the potential for a green hydrogen economy in Orkney; further recognises that Heat Smart Orkney, which uses excess electricity from the community-owned wind turbine to provide affordable heat for households in Rousay, Egilsay and Wyre, won the Best Community Project Award for its efforts to tackle fuel poverty and meet environmental objectives; commends other Orkney finalists, Elsa Ramirez and Leask Marine Ltd, for their nominations at these prestigious awards; believes that Orkney’s success is once again testament to the exceptional efforts of the islands in leading the development of initiatives in renewable energy; congratulates all of Orkney’s finalists on being recognised, and thanks them for their continued hard work and contributions that are helping Orkney to reach its renewable energy potential.
