EIS-FELA Members at West Lothian College Vote for Industrial Action Short of Strike Action

The motion

That the Parliament notes reports that EIS-FELA members at West Lothian College have voted in favour of action short of strike action over attempts to introduce instructors and assessors instead of college lecturers; understands that 87% of participating members on a turnout of 67% voted for this action; notes that EIS reportedly believes that these changes will reduce staff conditions and undermine the professionalism of lecturers as these roles do not require a teaching qualification or General Teaching Council for Scotland registration, are lower paid and have more class contact hours, less time for preparation and reduced annual leave, and urges the college to rethink its plans to introduce instructors and assessors instead of college lecturers.
