Congratulating the Welsh Government on its Changing Places Toilets Consultation

That the Parliament welcomes the Welsh Government’s decision to launch a consultation on improving the provision of Changing Places toilets throughout Wales; understands that access to public sanitation facilities should be a basic right for all; notes that access to Changing Places toilets means that disabled people and their carers can have greater access to activities and experiences outside of their homes including more opportunities to take part in community groups and events, travel further from their homes and access tourism locations; acknowledges that there are 190 Changing Places toilets in Scotland; recognises that there has been increased investment from larger companies such as Tesco and Asda to introduce Changing Places toilets to their stores but that this is not enough if public facilities are to be fully accessible; considers that the Scottish Government can do more to encourage companies to make their facilities more accessible and to make their spaces more disability-friendly; recognises that none of these changes would have been realised without the tireless work of a variety of campaigners, including Lorna Fillingham, who has established a framework that groups throughout the UK can work from, and calls on the Scottish Government to redouble its efforts to make Scotland a more accessible place for those living with disabilities.
