The motion

That the Parliament offers support and solidarity to the striking BT Openreach Repayment Project Engineers, who have been forced into action following an attempt by the company to re-grade their roles; recognises that this is the first time that industrial action has taken place anywhere in the BT Group in more than 20 years and was a last resort following the company’s refusal to respond constructively to concerns from employees and their trade union, the CWU; further recognises that 86% voted in favour of industrial action, on a 94% turnout; notes that the industrial action, involving 170 employees began at midnight on Wednesday and will take place for 48-hours, will include virtual picket lines and also included a ‘solidarity session’ attended by hundreds of supporters on Wednesday, and calls on BT Openreach to enter meaningful negations with workers’ and their union to resolve this dispute.
