Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station Training

That the Parliament notes reported proposals for a short training course at Hinkley Point C nuclear power station that would allow safety critical electrical work to be carried out without the need for a qualified electrician; considers that, if extended, this would compromise public safety by deskilling the electrical contracting sector; opposes what it sees as any such dilution of public safety in major infrastructure projects across the UK and here in Scotland; notes what it considers the importance of regulation for electricians; commends the actions of Unite the Union and the Construction Rank and File to defend safety and national collective bargaining agreements in the sector, and calls on major employers to make a public statement disassociating themselves from the proposals, which it considers would compromise the health and safety of the public and workers in the construction sector, including in the Lothian region.
