McVitie's
The motion
That the Parliament deplores the reported intention of pladis to close the long-standing McVitie’s factory in Tollcross, Glasgow, in the second half of 2022; understands that 468 jobs have been placed at risk following what it considers years of underinvestment by the plant’s owners; seeks clarification from pladis as to whether it has made a final decision or is open to genuine consultation; considers that explanations should be given by the company as to why its Scottish factory is the first of its facilities to be planned for closure; hopes that pladis will work with the Scottish Government, Glasgow City Council, Scottish Enterprise and trade unions to explore the possibility of a modern replacement plant being built in Glasgow, and agrees with the view that it is important for companies to keep their headquarters in Scotland, particularly those with strong historical significance to Scotland's communities and constituents.
