The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges the outstanding achievement of Tom Muir, who is a former pupil at Sheuchan Primary School and Stranraer Academy, on being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, which it believes is one of the highest honours that a scientist can achieve; notes that, by doing so, Tom is following in the footsteps of science giants such as Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking; recognises Tom's sterling contribution to chemistry and biology and his work to encourage other pupils from Scotland to listen to their mentors and achieve their dreams, and wishes Tom, who is now based in the United States, and his family, continued success as he joins the 8,000 other eminent scientists in the Royal Society, which has been making its mark over the last 350 years.
