Gourock Golf Club Celebrates 125th Anniversary

That the Parliament acknowledges that Gourock Golf Club is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, as it was on 28 April 1896 that a meeting was held in the Gamble Institute on Shore Street, Gourock to consider the proposal to form a golf club in Gourock; notes that over the following 125 years, the club expanded from its initial nine holes to 18 and, in doing so, gradually moved further west in the town; understands that there have been four clubhouses, with the present facility in Cowal View having been built in 1964, as part of the Trumpethill housing development; recognises that the club has recently completed a £250,000 upgrade to its facilities and has a number of golf and social events arranged throughout 2021 to celebrate the anniversary; appreciates that the COVID-19 pandemic has curtailed the club’s plans but that it hopes to host a charity event in July if restrictions permit; appreciates that it began the season with a fun all-members scramble in early May, with 240 members taking part, and that each player was presented with a ball with a "125th" logo on it, and encouraged not to lose it on the first hole; believes that golf is a great way to keep active and enjoy Scotland’s beautiful scenery, with Gourock Golf Club offering panoramic views across the Clyde; hopes that more people consider taking up golf as COVID-19 restrictions ease, and wishes Gourock Golf Club all the best for the future.
