Penicuik Tackling the Climate Crisis
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the recent opening of Penicuik’s Carbon Challenge shop on John Street; understands that the project, which has received nearly £150,000 from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund, aims to help locals reduce their carbon footprint and find more environmentally sustainable options; notes that the initiatives include a bike repair workshop where people can bring their bike for free maintenance checks and repairs, the provision of home composting and food waste kits and new tool library and sewing workshop, and believes that this project is a great example of community activism, which has been so important throughout Scotland during the COVID-19 pandemic, and one that will make taking positive steps towards more environmentally friendly options much more accessible to a broader range of people.
