Supporting Recovery in the Retail Sector
The motion
That the Parliament notes the recent figures published by the Scottish Retail Consortium indicating that retail sales remain significantly below pre-pandemic levels; remains concerned that, given retail is the largest sector of employment within the private sector, continued depressed sales levels could have major consequences on employment levels, suppliers to the sector and, consequently, the wider economy; considers that local communities rely on local high streets in South Edinburgh and across Scotland, and notes the calls on the Scottish Government to extend support to the sector and to work with trade unions and retail businesses to ensure an effective recovery plan is put in place for this vital sector.
