Improving Digital Skills to Boost Scottish Productivity
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges a new report by FutureDotNow, which states that productivity and commercial success is being hindered by 17.1 million people lacking digital skills; understands that FutureDotNow is a campaign group of large British employers; notes that the group, whose members include BT, Lloyds Banking Group, Marks & Spencer and Accenture, said the issue had been "overlooked and needed addressing urgently"; understands that only 23% of employees report having any digital skills training from employers; further understands that Scotland’s productivity has fallen further behind other parts of the UK and overseas competitors in 10 out of 15 key indicators, according to a recent CBI/KPMG report, and urges the Scottish Government to adopt a new strategy for improving digital skills among the Scottish workforce and offer new digital training opportunities to help companies innovate as Scotland recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
